Abstract

Liquid fish fertilizer is a good source of nitrogen, phosphorus and protein, which are essential plant nutrients. hydropriming involves soaking the seeds in water and drying them to improve germination. A percentage of quinoa and cañahua seeds from the Andean Grains Germplasm Bank have low germination, so the objective of the research is to evaluate the effect of hydropriming and liquid trout fertilizer in increasing germination and root growth in quinoa and cañahua seeds. The research was carried out in the laboratory of the Banco de Germoplasma de Granos Andinos, La Paz (Bolivia). A sample of 100 seeds was taken from three accessions of quinoa and cañahua, four treatments were evaluated: control (100%:0%), treatment 1 (99.90%; 0.10%), treatment 2 (99.75%;0.25%), treatment 3 (99.50%;0.50%) and treatment 4 (99.25%;0. 75%) with three replicates, the soaking time was 12 hours at room temperature, then they were dried and arranged in Petri boxes, then introduced into the germination chamber for seven days at a temperature of 17°C, the length of the radicle (mm) was determined by an electronic vernier. The combination of 99.50% distilled water with 0.50% liquid trout fertilizer is the optimum to achieve higher germination percentage and root length in quinoa and cañahua seeds that have low initial germination percentages. The combination of 99.25% distilled water with 0.75% liquid trout fertilizer showed a decrease in both variables, which according to similar research is due to an increase in pH and a decrease in EC. This method can be considered as a strategy to recover seed that registers low germination percentages, besides being economically viable and easily applicable with inputs that are accessible to germplasm banks that have difficulties in periodically refreshing the accessions under their custody.
