Effect of Inhibitor of ß-tubulin fungicides on the in vitro control of Sclerotium rolfsii

Abstract

Southern blight in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a disease caused by the plant pathogen fungus Sclerotium rolfsii. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of fungicides that affect mitosis and cell division (benzimidazoles and thiophanates) using different doses of 1, 10, 100, 1000 ppm. The experiment was carried out in the Molecular Biology laboratory of ESPAM MFL, Calceta-Manabí. The variables evaluated were percentage of inhibition (24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, 168, 192, 216 h), number of sclerotia and viability of sclerotia; For in vitro sensitivity, a completely randomized experimental design was used, with 16 treatments with 4 repetitions; The comparison of means was performed with the Tukey test (p < 0.05). The fungicides, carbendazim, benomyl, thiophanate-methyl and thiabendazole, in all their doses were not to be effective in controlling the fungus under in vitro conditions, as well as in the viability of sclerotia, which indicates the possibility of the existence of resistance on the part of this phytopathogen to the fungicide inhibitors of the formation of beta-tubulin.
