Abstract

The feasibility of asexual propagation in the cultivation of bamboo is not a conventional practice due to the difficulties of obtaining seeds given its long flowering cycle. The objectives of the research were to a) identify the variety of bamboo that presents the best results in vegetative reproduction and b) determine the method of propagation that results in better rates of capture and growth in the nursery phase. The investigation was in Sapecho Experimental Station, the evaluated varieties were Guadua angustifolia bicolor and Guadua angustifolia Kunth with propagation methods by basal culm with two knots, apical part of the stem with two knots and part radicular, the experimental design for the percentage variables of capture and days to sprouting was a factorial arrangement distributed in a completely random design; for the variables height of plant, number of shoots, diameter of the neck of the main shoot, length and diameter of the root, and percentage of survival a completely randomized design was used, this due to the loss of the variety Guadua angustifolia Kunth between 30 and 60 days after sowing. The best results for the percentage of capture were for the variety Guadua angustifolia bicolor with 44.08% at 30 days and 77.40% at 60 days. The application of the method of propagation by basal culm with two knots gave better results for the height of plant (87.24 cm), number of shoots (4 shoots), diameter of the neck of the main shoot (4.94 mm), length of the root (34.30 cm), diameter of the root (3.63 mm) and percentage of survival (97.40%). For all the above it is concluded that the bamboo variety that showed the best vegetative reproduction results in the nursery phase was Guadua angustifolia bicolor with the method of propagation by basal culm with two knots, being recommended for its propagation.
