Abstract

The Pampas district reports water scarcity, caused by deforestation in the micro-basins. In this regard, reforestation was carried out using native species such as Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn (alder), with the aim of retaining water resources in the future for the benefit of the population. Consequently, the objective was to determine the survival percentage and the dendrometric growth of the plants during two evaluations, in the Ñaño Huaycco area, Pampas - Tayacaja, Huancavelica, Peru. The methodology employed was a random inventory, evaluating 10 temporary plots of 20 x 20 m, during two evaluations; the first evaluation was at the start of the frost period (May), and the second evaluation was at the end of the frost period (November), i.e., with a six-month difference. Data on survival (%), basal diameter at 10 cm above the ground (cm), basal diameter increment, and total height, as well as the monthly growth rate of basal diameter and total height, were collected. These variables were analyzed using mean values, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. The results show that, at the start of the frost period, the plots reported higher survival on average (88.23 %); however, in the second evaluation, higher average values were reported for basal diameter (1.12 cm) and total height (61.07 cm). It was concluded that the alder plants established in the plantation are not very resistant to frost damage; however, they show minimal growth and a low monthly growth rate
