Abstract

In Latin America and the Caribbean, there are problems of insufficient intake of foods rich in micronutrients (iron, iodine, zinc, vitamin A), generating imbalances in the nutritious diet, malnutrition in children under five inhibits their cognitive development and affects their health status, therefore, addressing this problem is essential to ensure the survival and development of children, an alternative is the cultivation of potatoes that is important in the region, for its value as a food security crop. We worked with varieties of native potatoes of Saq'ampaya, Qhati Señorita and Chilltu with a high content of Iron and Zinc, for which, a municipal norm was developed for the creation of a municipal bank of seeds of native varieties applying a participative methodology, to systematize and analyze the academic knowledge of the interlocutors, farmers and decision-makers at the local level, using honest, simple and frank dialogue that has allowed to reflect the experiences of the farmers, whose result is reflected in the promulgation of the Municipal Law No. 102/2016 "Law for the Creation of the Municipal Seed Bank (native potato)" and its subsequent Editing Decree 008/2017 General Regulation of the Law for the Creation of the Municipal Seed Bank of the native potato. With the enactment of the Law, the functioning and sustainability of the Municipal Seed Bank of native potato varieties (Saq'ampaya, Qhati Señorita and Chiltu) is guaranteed for the benefit of the population with a focus on food security and sovereignty.
